The Samsung UE-32B7000 (also known as the 32B7020) does cost a bit more than some of the cheapest 46 inch LCD TVs. However it does offer a much higher specification (an internet connection, a multiplicity of ports, including USB, and a Freeview tuner).

Samsung UE32B7000 Review

There are a variety of model numbers used for this Samsung TV. The Dixons Store Group (PC World, Currys and Dixons) use UE32B7000. Whether its the 32B7000, Currys, style (which has a slim red trim decorating the edging) or the 32B7020 (no red edge, sold by Amazon and other online stores), or, on occasion, the 32B7020W or the 32B7000W, its exactly the equivalent technical specification beneath the surface.

Out of the Package – Initial Views: Wow – most people are astounded by just how slim the UE32B7000 is – in reality less than an inch and a half in depth. Samsung has done well by ensuring that everything you need is built-in in the package, unlike some of its competitors who on occasion move key components out to a separate box you have to find space for. It also looks excellent, with a stunning black border and a slender transparent neck connecting the display and the pedestal.

Audio Quality: On the whole new televisions have poor quality sound outputs and the UE32B7000 is unfortunately  no exception. The depth of the UE32B7000 is not enough to fit in good speakers so it would be a good plan to add on a separate external surround sound system.

Screen Performance: The unique selling point of the UE32B7000 is that, instead of fluorescent tubes to provide backlighting, it uses LEDs. Not everybody realises that the UE32B7000 is still a LCD TV. it’s simply the backlighting that’s changed. LEDs have the following advantages:

* This technology gives a much more constant backlight across the TV, as it uses a lattice system.

* Only plasma televisions have produced complete blacks until now – this enables LCD ones to do so as well.

* The screen responds more rapidly.

* The range of colours that can be shown is better.

Connectivity: The UE32B7000 comes with four HDMI, two USB, and one LAN port – all the connections we are likely to need for several years at least. The LAN one permits the UE32B7000 to retrieve files on your PC that you might want to use. And the USB connections permit many file formats to be played when a USB stick is used. As well as facilitating a wireless link to your home network – a separate dongle is required for this.

The chief remote control is a slightly bizarrely produced gadget, a tad similar to a shoehorn. A little awkward to employ at first, but OK when you are used to it. And a baby remote is also provided – enabling power of and on, together with channel and volume changes.

Environmental considerations: In service the UE32B7000 uses only as much power as a light bulb  (between 100 and 130 W), a great deal less than nearly all modern televisions.

Summary: A great TV in what will definitely be one of a new generation of LED backlit Televisions. Despite just standard sound quality, the image quality of the UE32B7000 is exceptional.
